answers to frequently asked questions - weddings + elopements
“WHAT IS A WEDDING INVITATION SUITE?”
A “suite” is a group of items, whether for print or digital. Each piece of the suite should play off of each other to create a harmonious compilation of colors, fonts, and typography. A wedding invitation suite consists of all paper goods or digital layouts sent along with the wedding invitation, such as the response card, details card, etc.
“WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR MAILING THE WEDDING INVITATION SUITE?”
I typically advise around 6-8 months for the Save the Date Card and 6-8 weeks for the Invitation. The Invitation mailing can vary based on when you need to have your final headcount for your caterer or reception venue. You also need to consider if this is a destination wedding giving your guests additional time to plan their travel.
“CAN YOU DO CUSTOM DESIGNS?”
It’s what we do! We love creating unique, one-of-a-kind pieces to show off your one-of-a-kind personality!
“CAN I ORDER SAMPLES?”
Since all designs are custom, there are no samples to order. When the digital draft is complete, we will order printed proofs for your final approval.
“CAN YOU HELP WITH INVITATION WORDING”
Absolutely! We can help with wording, etiquette, formatting, etc.
“WE’RE NOT IN THE SAME CITY. CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?
Of course! 95% of my clients are out of the immediate area, so I’m used to managing projects long distances. I’ll send PDF drafts by email, we can chat on the phone or over a Zoom call. No problem!
“HOW DOES YOUR PRICING WORK?”
I offer a free consultation and we can discuss your needs. I’m happy to bundle any project and offer a flat rate if you have more than one item in your suite, or you can choose a la carte, whichever works best! After our initial consultation, I will draw up my design agreement for your review and signature.
"DO I NEED OUTER ENVELOPES FOR MY INVITATIONS?”
Every bit about your wedding and design is about you - there is no right or wrong. Back in the day, the inner envelope was used in order to protect the invitation from the mail carrier system. It was also thought to add a more formal touch. It’s not needed, especially if you’re looking to save money because of the extra enclosure, but also on postage due to the added weight of the entire mailing.
“SHOULD I HIRE A CUSTOM INVITATION DESIGNER?”
Wedding planning can be stressful no matter your party size. If your budget allows, always hire an expert to put your anxieties at ease. Your stationery designer will cover all the details, ask questions you haven’t thought of, help with etiquette, postage, and other related items.
